- Tasting Notes: A bruiser on the nose, you can pour this rum and smell it across the house. It leaps from the glass, flinging maple, toffee, sweet oak, pound cake and candied figs, caramels and toffee. It's light on fruit and funk, landing squarely in an opulent profile of heavy oak, caramels, baked goods, maple and tobacco. The palate is spritely, easy drinking for north of 60% ABV and I have to say you should sub this for whiskey in one old fashioned - it may change the way you drink from this day forward. The palate is rich and viscous, layered with sweetness, balanced oak, a peep of orange peel, mango, date fruit here and there. Pleasant baking spice, more oak, cigar wrapper tobacco (reminds me of my favorite stick - padron 64) and a long, decadent finish that weaves together sweetness, savory character, oak and a dash of spice. There's a richness to this cask that whiskey can only dream of.
