Lassalle 1988, 12.01D.#03, Cask #136LP, 52% abv,
280 Bottles Total

“This is not a Pibous cask”

This Bas Armagnac cask was distilled in 1988 from Ugni Blanc and matured more than 33 years before yielding 280 bottles at 52.5% ABV for Aficionados Group.
This cask was the clear favorite of the tasting panel.

Nose: rich caramel, strawberry balsamic reduction, cream, vanilla, cherries

Palate: vinous, strawberry balsamic again. Cherry cream soda. A nicely warming kick. Just like the Mouracs pick, a generous but not overbearing helping of oak (notably less than the Afish /Baytowne Lassalle pick). Viscous mouthfeel.

Finish: mulled apple cider with cinnamon and cloves but also cherry. Long. Keeps me coming back for more. I had to pour the very last bit I’d saved from the panel because this disappeared to fast. Oh and the cherry note becomes more prominent throughout, the longer this is rested.

Part of the story with the name tag is that during the blind round, I did side-by-sides against a couple of my favorite Pibous casks, and it held its own. Basically I’m a huge fan of this one. I can’t wait for y’all to try it. Soon! --Dan, Aficionados Group Co-Founder ( PhillyPretzelTahiniShake)
