- Tasting Notes: I tried a number of samples that leaned hot, spicy, herbal-y, peppery. I like that in a rye, but too much ginger is too much. My favorite cask of the bunch ended up being a sweet, honey forward, baking spice machine that's loaded with orange peel, sweet butterscotch, a touch of pound cake, confectioners, a zip of pepper and that fruity sweetness I often find in Russell's Rye. For 100% rye, this doesn't punch you square in the face like our recent Dad's Hat, it's a subtler combination of sweetness, light and pleasant tannin, and lovely fruits. Orange peel, brown sugar, caramels and a long, decadent finish see this rare find out. There's no herbal mintiness, dill or vinegar notes, it's all maple and lovely orange and clove on its way out of town.
