10.5 Year Rye (Low Rye 51% MGP Mashbill) - "Low RYEder" -
Nose: Sweet and inviting right out of the glass, with layers of maple syrup, sweet oak, and subtle ripe fruit. Beneath the sweetness is a beautiful, unmistakable rye spice that adds just enough lift and complexity without dominating the nose. The balance between the sweet oak and gentle spice makes this an incredibly approachable rye.
Palate: This is where things get really interesting. Despite being a rye, the profile is extremely bourbon-leaning, delivering waves of caramel, maple syrup, sweet oak, and restrained rye spice. The mouthfeel is exceptionally thick and viscous, almost velvety. The flavors coat the palate and just hang on, with the maple and caramel giving way to a pleasant rye spice that builds slowly without ever becoming overpowering.
Finish: Long, smooth, and incredibly satisfying. The sweetness from the nose pulls back slightly, allowing the rye spice, maple, and oak to take center stage. There's a beautiful lingering warmth, but very little alcohol heat for the proof.
Overall: There is a reason Drew Thorn said, "If you didn't pick this barrel, I was going to dump it, bottle it, and sell it as my own rye single barrel." This is one of those ryes that makes you stop and reconsider what a rye can be. Nearly 11 years old, incredibly viscous, bourbon-forward, and packed with flavor, it has the sweetness and richness you'd expect from a great bourbon while still delivering enough rye character to remind you exactly what you're drinking. That velvety texture makes this one feel like you could chew the whiskey—and honestly, you might want to. An absolutely delicious pour.
